Foundry Manager

PRIMARY FUNCTION 

The primary function of a Foundry Manager is to give his company a competitive market advantage through such disciplines as process improvements, lead-time reduction, purchasing and sourcing techniques, quality control, inventory control, training and motivation of the company’s personnel, and to create a productive environment that will allow the organization to meet customer demands, fund wages, benefits and continuous improvements, and achieve our Mission Statement.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Training:

  • Technical 4-year degree and/or 5-year foundry
  • 2-year supervisory experience

Technical Requirements:

  • Experience with investment casting, Green sand processes, induction melting, iso-cure cores, shell cores, pattern and gating design, squeezer molding
  • Experience melting and pouring non-ferrous and ferrous alloys (bronzes, aluminum, stainless steel)
  • Ability to troubleshoot common casting quality issues (shrinks, tears, porosity)
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements in a foundry
  • Experience with ISO9001 system & procedures
  • Strong MS Office computer skills
  • Experience operating a computer based ERP business management system as detailed below
  • Experienced in casting root cause analysis
  • Ability to implement and document processes & improvements 


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing all foundry employees (4+ individuals)
  • Responsible for all foundry hiring, firing, annual reviews, and disciplinary actions
  • Open foundry before workday, lock up afterwards
  • Manage personnel scheduling and training
  • Manage equipment maintenance, both preventive and repairs
  • Relay any problems with employees to H.R.
  • Help manage, maintain, and enforce Safety policies, equipment, and training
  • Documentation, review, and revision of Job costing information
  • Documentation, review, and revision of process specifications
  • Price development and Quoting new jobs
  • Review all incoming orders for accuracy and profitability, Adjust pricing as needed
  • Enter customer purchase/sales/work orders in business computer system
  • Develop and enter Routers and Bills of Material in computer system
  • Schedule & prioritize workload
  • Oversee daily production and report status to customers
  • Oversee inspection & packaging of castings
  • Prepare all shipping documents and schedule shipments
  • Effectively manage raw material and supplies inventory
  • Obtain purchase orders and place orders for all other foundry materials/supplies
  • Maintain lines of communication with customers via phone, fax, email
  • Invoice as necessary; send electronic copies for customers requesting it
  • Maintain Pattern inventory
  • Maintain pattern integrity; notify customers of needed repairs, arrange same
  • Promote safety training, supply safety equipment, and enforce safety rules with all employees

Secondary Responsibilities: 

  • Take monthly metal inventory and maintain casting inventory log.
  • Maintain an organized file of quality and trace-ability information including chemical & heat treatment certs, physical/tensile testing, x-rays, and other information as customer specs dictate
  • Oversee any process improvement experiments & track results
  • Prepare for and host Government Source Inspections when applicable
